Head – Safety and Security

Job Description:

The Head of Safety and Security will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety and security at an Airport. This role encompasses the integration of aviation safety compliance, security protocols, and regulatory adherence in line with Indian aviation regulations and international best practices. The ideal candidate will lead a team, implement strategies, and maintain operational standards to safeguard both personnel and passengers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership & Management:
    • Lead, manage, and develop the Safety and Security team, ensuring a high level of performance and adherence to aviation safety standards.
    • Foster a culture of safety and security among all airport staff and stakeholders.
  2. Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) regulations, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) guidelines, and other relevant governmental policies.
    • Keep abreast of changes in laws, regulations, and security protocols relevant to airport operations domestically and internationally.
  3. Safety Management:
    • Develop and implement a robust Safety Management System (SMS) in line with international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
    • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and emergency response drills.
  4. Security Operations:
    • Oversee the implementation of airport security measures, including passenger screening, baggage handling, and perimeter security.
    • Coordinate with law enforcement and relevant agencies on security investigations and incidents.
  5. Training & Awareness:
    • Design and implement comprehensive training programs for all airport personnel on safety and security practices.
    • Promote passenger awareness programs regarding safety and emergency procedures.
  6. Incident Investigation & Reporting:
    • Lead investigations into safety or security incidents, ensuring thorough documentation and corrective actions are taken promptly.
    • Compile and present regular safety and security reports to management and regulatory bodies.
  7. Crisis Management:
    • Develop and maintain an effective crisis management plan, ensuring readiness for emergency situations, including natural disasters, security threats, and public health issues.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for emergency response coordination.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Security Management, or related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in aviation safety and security, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of Indian aviation laws, AAI regulations, and ICAO standards.
  • Proven experience in risk management and emergency response planning.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to influence and drive change.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with advanced security technology and screening processes.
